Online Tutoring

All services at CurtisE Learning can be conducted as online sessions for students worldwide. 95% of tutoring is conducted online and is just as productive, if not more, than in-person tutoring.

Is online tutoring as effective?

As a student, online tutoring is engaging. Most students love to use technology and share new apps, etc., so they come into the tutoring session willing to participate. Things may happen with the technology, but kids aren't bothered by that, and it helps the tutor understand learning styles and adapt skills to today’s online environment.

Students must verbally explain their conceptualizing. Because of the online distance, students have to talk about the subject much more than when meeting face-to-face. This verbalizing will reinforce the learning in ways other than just writing or watching.

The internet allows for unique resources during a tutoring session. Sessions are more interactive by using games, interactive websites, manipulatives, imagery and videos, etc. . Engaging with students in a format they are familiar with and enjoy, the subject can be deeply internalized, leading to ownership/mastery.

The distance forces the student to do more self-learning. There are no notes from the tutor to cheat off when working on a problem or text; they are forced to think of ways to move through tasks, resulting in needed “Aha!” moments as the tutor and the student collaborate in discovering not only answers but strategies that will enrich their learning tool kits.

Increased ways and methods of learning prove to increase learning speed and depth of knowledge. Online tutoring has significantly deepened my understanding of concepts through all the available techniques. Tutors find that students fill in learning gaps more quickly than through in-person private tutoring.
